"Al-Khadara" (Centre of Arabic Culture) was established in 1999 at the suggestion of Professor Mirza Makhmutov, Academician of Tatarstan Branch of Russian Academy of Science, and with the support of the Academic Council of Kazan in Tatar-American Regional Institute.

"Al-Khadara" was opened in order to create interest in Arabic culture, Arabic countries and Arabic language. Today it is the only center of Arabic studies in the Republic of Tatarstan. The center provides an opportunity to study Arabic language and culture to everyone, regardless of age, religious, ethnic or other affiliation.

The Center organizes lectures and seminars on culture and history of Arabic countries, meetings and round table discussions with renowned scholars and invited guests. Each year students have the opportunity to go on a summer language training to Morocco and Egypt.

An unforgettable event in the life of the Centre is Day of Arabic culture, which is attended by students of all universities and schools in Kazan and near-by cities.
