The European region is of considerable interest to Kazan University in terms of international cooperation. In Europe, there are some of the oldest and most constant partners of KFU like Justus Liebig University of Giessen (Germany) Granada University (Spain), University of Lodz (Poland) as well as new prospective partners, with which agreements on cooperation were signed in recent years: Strasbourg University (France), Fribourg University (Switzerland), Friedrich Schiller University of Jena (Germany), etc.

In addition, there is an active work on networking and participation in a number of projects, financed by European organizations:

- Since 2008 KFU has been a member of international consortium of 10 European and 10 Russian universities participating in a network mobility project named “Integration, Interaction and Institutions (Triple I)” in the framework of Erasmus Mundus program. The project is feasible with financial support of European Commission; coordinator – University of Turku, Finland.

- In 2011 Director of the Institute for Comparative Studies of Modernity Irina Morenko won the Grant of European Commission (External Actions program) for establishing The Volga International Centre for EU Studies in KFU. VOICES Academic Project is estimated to run in 2011-2014

- The consortium of 4 European and 13 Russian universities, including KFU, coordinated by the University of Bedfordshire, Great Britain, is working within the PROSET project: Promoting Sustainable Excellence in Testing and Assessment of English, financed by European Commission in the framework of Tempus program. In KFU the Institute of Philology and Arts is in charge of the project designed for 2011 – 2013.

Annually over 50 students from the countries of Europe are trained at Kazan university.
