Library

KFU students may use the services and resources of the Nikolai Lobachevsky Scientific Library. The library has accumulated over five million volumes, including 150 thousand old and rare units. By the size of its funds, it rates among top ten Russian libraries and ranks third among Russian university libraries. In terms of value and antiquity of certain books and collections, Nikolai Lobachevsky Scientific Library is second to just about none.

One of the unique elements of the Library is the Department of Rare Books and Manus­cripts. The collection includes ancient scrolls from the 10th century, some of Europe's first printed books from the 15th century (incunabula), original editions of Russia's first printed books, and ancient Oriental rare books and manus­cripts.

Services

At the Nikolai Lobachevsky Scientific Library students may borrow materials, order interlibrary loans and use a number of electronic resources available free of charge. The library has two computer classes for students' use.

The library offers also a range of additional fee-based services. These include e.g. bibliographic editing of the list of references for a diploma or course work.

Joining the library

Students of KFU can get a library card free of charge from the Readers' Service Department of the library. In order to get a library card, you must present your student card and passport. You are also required to bring one photo for the card.

Using the library

User of the library has the right to:

• enjoy free use of basic library service:
  get full information about library holdings through the catalog system (including electronic cards) and other forms of information
  get different publications and other documents or their copies in temporary use in the reading room
  get publications on interlibrary loan
  get assistance and advisory services in publications search and choice

• address proposals and remarks to representatives of administration;
• use technical devices (laptops, calculators, MP3 players, cameras, mobile phones) without sound
• use library computers for the purposes of scientific research

Museums

Kazan Federal University is the only university in Russia to possess its own unique combination of different museums. KFU museums enjoy international repute for their quality. Information on their collections can be found in international catalogues and reference books. The collections are used for educational, research and cultural purposes.

• The Edward Eversman Zoology Museum boasts over 50,000 exhibits, giving a complete view of the diversity of wildlife from unicellular organisms to primates.
• The Ethnographic Museum's most exemplary collection is that of the artifacts characterizing the way of life of different peoples of Russia, especially Siberia and the multiethnic Volga region.
• The Alexander Stuckenberg Geology Museum comprises of 150,000 articles from 60 countries, including collections of meteorites, rocks and fossils of ancient plants and animals.
• The Archeological Museum's main exhibition presents wide-ranging illustrations of general archeology, anthropology, ancient and medieval history and the history of archeological science in Kazan.
• The Botanical Museum was complemented by the collection of Prince Potemkin, donated by Emperor Paul I to the Kazan Imperial School in 1798. Later the large collections of abbot de Grenadier (1,500 pieces) and Rupreht (6,500 pieces) were added, to be joined by other collections.
• The Museum of Kazan School of Chemistry is the only museum of a whole chemical research field to be found in the entire world.
• The Museum of History of Kazan University A thousand exhibits and unique relics illustrate the scientific advances of scientific schools of the University and present the outstanding discoveries that have brought world renown to Kazan University.

The Museum's branch, E.K.Zavoisky Laboratory has scientific instruments used by physicists in 19-20th centuries, as well as a rich collection of radiotechnical equipment of the past century.
