Abstract

In this paper, the problem caused by a lack of comprehensive studies of the methodological system for a social law-governed state in the Russian socio-humanitarian science was tackled. It clearly defines the need to consider both the system and interaction of democratic and authoritarian methods. It was emphasized that these groups of methods complement and level out the shortcomings of each other when applied. The extent to which proper knowledge of the system of methods is important to certain representatives of the society and state (legislators, practicing lawyers, public officials, and research lawyers) was discussed. The properties of the system of methods of a social law-governed state, as well as the properties of democratic and authoritarian methods were singled out using the modern Russian state as an example. It was concluded that authoritarian means are supplemented by the democratic ones and, along with them and other means, aim to maintain a balance and eliminate all imbalances in the governance system. Factors influencing the successful functioning of democratic methods and the need to democratize the Russian state were analyzed.
