Fakhrutdinov Ravil was born on March 14, 1937 ,in Karelino village of the Baltasinsky district -10.3.2014, Kazan. He was an archeologist, historian, Doctor of History (1990) and Honored Scientist of the Republic of  Tatarstan (1997). He graduated from the Kazan Pedagogical Institute in 1963. In 1966, he began to work in the Institute of Language, Literature and History and later, in 1997, he was a senior researcher in the Institute of History, the Academy of  Sciences of the Republic of Tatarstan. In 1959-72, he headed a Tatar archeological expedition with the aim to create a map of archaeological monuments of Volga Bulgaria, the Bulgar ulus of the Golden Horde and the Kazan khanate. He conducted an archaeological survey of the territory of Tatarstan, the regions of Ulyanovsk, Samara, and the Chuvash ASSR. More than 1200 monuments were identified and studied. In the 1970s and 2000s, he headed the excavations of Kamaevsky settlement, Russian-Urmatian settlement, Bilyar settlement, took part in the archaeological research on Bulgar, Tsarevsky and Saltpetre settlements, etc. Fakhrutdinov Ravil was one of the organizers of the Iski-Kazan historical, cultural and natural preserve in the Vysokogorsky district and the author of works on the history and archeology of Volga Bulgaria, the Golden Horde, and the Kazan khanate. He participated in the development of the 6-volume "Archaeological Map of the Republic of Tatarstan". Fakhrutdinov Ravil was the author of course books and study guides on ancient and medieval literature and history of the Tatar people and Tatarstan, including "History of the Tatar people and Tatarstan" (1995), in Tatar: "Tatar halky ham Tatarstan tarikhy" (1996). Fakhrutdinov Ravil was a chief editor of the Tatar archeological journal (1997-2006). He was awarded with medals.
