The Department of Russian History is one of the oldest in Kazan Federal University. It is the center of the Kazan regional branch of the All-Russian Society of Intellectual History. In 2016 as a result of the reorganization, the faculty members of the departments “Historiography and Source Studies” and “World Politics and Economics and International Economic Relations” joined the Department.
Today, the Department of Russian History consists of threes sectors: “The History of Russia” (headed by Prof. G.V. Ibneeva), “Historiography and Source Studies” (headed by Prof. A.A. Salnikova) and “Pedagogical Education” (headed by Prof. O.V. Sinitsyn). There are 38 academics at the Department, including 11 professors, 26 associate professors, 1 asst. lecturer.
The main goal of the graduating Department of Russian History is the implementation of educational, methodological and research activities in the field of Russian history, training and retraining of qualified pedagogical and scientific personnel in the field of Russian history. The role of the department in the system of higher education in Kazan Federal University is determined by the fact that it ensures the teaching of the course “History” in all areas of education.
The activity of the department is aimed at the following tasks:
educational, methodological and organizational support and maintenance of educational disciplines;
introduction of perspective forms of the organization of the educational process;
preservation and development of close ties with schools, educational authorities of Tatarstan and Kazan, active participation in raising the qualifications and retraining of teachers of history and social studies, constant communication with graduates;
increase in the publication activity of the faculty in the leading foreign and Russian publications indexed in foreign databases of scientific citations (Web of Science and Scopus);
involving the Department in the development and implementation of interdisciplinary research and educational projects in partnership with leading foreign and Russian organizations;
introduction of leading Russian and foreign teachers for reading courses on Master`s programs.
