The article explores the problem of relationships with other countries and people in the field of education as one of the major tendencies in the development of the Tatar enlightenment in different periods of its historical development – ranging from ancient Turk to the present day. On the basis of numerous sources, the author comes to the conclusion that cross-cultural communication manifests itself primarily in the form of the exchange of experience, the use of advanced achievements of other peoples, and interference in pedagogical processes. The author also makes an attempt to define the role of Islam in the development of the Tatar enlightenment. The article raises the issue of paying more attention to the use of the teaching experience of related peoples.
