World drama – Schiller, Moliere, Gogol and Ostrovsky – has been put on the stage of the Tatar theatre since the very first years of its existence. Later on, Shakespeare, Goldoni, Gozzi, Lope de Vega, Beaumarchais, A.Tolstoy and Chekhov appeared in the repertoire.

In this season as well, the Tatar theatres have given the impression of a huge conspiracy by appealing unanimously to world classics. The theatre of Naberezhnye Chelny has staged the play “Uncle Vanya” by Anton Chekhov, the Menzelinsk Theatre has presented “Uncle's Dream” by Dostoevsky, the Almetyevsk Theatre has enacted “The Good Person of Szechwan” by B.Brecht, the Kamal Academic Theatre has staged “Don Juan” by Moliere and the K.Tinchurin Theatre has put “Karol” by S.Mrozhek on its stage.

The importance of productions of world classics – both Russian and foreign – on the Tatar stage is in the eccentricity of performances, the directorial interpretations corresponding to acute problems of modern life, highly professional acting and imaginative scenography.

Key words: Tatar theatre, world drama, metaphor, genre peculiarities, direction, interpretation, acting, scenography.
