The paper contains material, concerning the history of establishment and operation of the journal ‘Bezneŋ Miras’ (‘Our Heritage’). The first issue of the journal ‘Miras’ was released in 1991. The Editors- in-Chief of the issue were F.Musin, A.Sakhapov, I.Ibragimov, and L.Leron. The scientific concept of the issue was developed by prominent Tatar scholars, writers and social activists, such as A.Yeniki, G.Bashirov, M.Magdiev, M.Usmanov, A.Karimullin, M.Makhmutov and others. The paper gives a review of sources containing their suggestions for the journal’s content, oriented towards the preservation and augmentation of the historical documental heritage, other historical cultural values, that are a national legacy of the Tatar people, their active and all-round use. It shows the dynamics of creating journal columns, determines the key tendencies of its development throughout a quarter of a century. The authors of the paper point out the flexible policy of the journal oriented at both a wide circle of Russian and foreign readers interested in the Tatar history and a narrow circle of specialists with an opportunity to publish results of their fundamental complex research on history, literature, language and culture of the Tatar ethnos in the journal. The authors present a brief overview of the contributions to pedagogy, general and regional history which determined the position of the journal for a decade. The article also provides statistical data on the present situation of the journal ‘Bezneŋ Miras’ (‘Our Heritage’) and its plans for the future.
