The Comparative Dictionaries of All Languages and Dialects by Ludwig Bacmeister, Peter Simon Pallas, and their assistants, compiled with the encouragement and participation of the Russian Empress Catherine II is of great importance, as it is the first comparative list of basic vocabulary (285 words) of many languages and dialects. The work contains words from about twenty Turkic languages and dialects. Basic vocabularies of a number of these Turkic languages and dialects were defined for the first time. Therefore, the dictionary is of great value as a useful source of information about lexicological and phonological features and morphological structures of many languages, including Turkic languages and dialects of the 18th century.
