The Department of Romance and Germanic Philology provides students with relevant and appropriate language learning. The educational program is aimed at developing students’ competence in applying English as a language of global communication, and enables students to communicate effectively in English, to develop the academic writing and oral skills in a scientific environment. Our department equips the students with the knowledge required for their future professional activity making them experts in the fields related to philology and humanities, interpersonal and cross-cultural communication. Such specialists possess the culture of mindset, prompt information perception and the capability to analyze, assess and synthesize. They are able to set the goals and to forge the ways of reaching them.

The Department of Romance and Germanic Philology encourages students to bring both philological and humanistic knowledge to bear on today's topical problems as part of their research activities. Students can participate in academic mobility programs and spend a semester abroad.

Members of the department are actively involved in research and take part in various international events, including conferences, symposiums, seminars such as EURALEX, INTED, AERA, DAAD, COIL, BERA, LINELT GLOBAL CONFERENCE on LINGUISTICS and FOREIGN LANGUAGE TEACHING, INTERNATIONAL CONTRASTIVE LINGUISTICS CONFERENCE, UNICollaboration. The Department works in academic collaboration with different research centers. Most of our university lecturers and professors are members of internationally recognized professional associations such as ALTE, EALTA, ESCI, American Neurological Association, TESOL, WASET, European Association for American Studies, The European Society for Study of English, DAAD, NATE Russia, AERA.

The Department of Romance and Germanic Philology provides education on additional specialization providing an opportunity to gain experience, knowledge and skills in the field of Translation Studies and get the Certificate of Supplementary Education.

Members of the department implement various projects and carry out collaborative research activities with colleagues from the Spanish universities. Moreover, Granada, Cadiz, Huelva, La Coruña invite our students to study for a period of six months to a year. “Spanish Week of Language and Culture" is a regular cultural fest open to the wide public. It includes different competitions in the fields of Spanish poetry, filmmaking, photos, food and music. The international exam of Spanish as a Foreign Language (DELE) in cooperation with the Cervantes Institute takes place twice a year. Every year more than 20 students take the exam (levels B1, B2, C1, C2).
