Master of Science in Biology 06.04.01

with the focus on  Landscaping

This program is established to train specialists on the intersection of 3 directions:

  1. architecture and design
  2. botany and plant growing
  3. cultural history and philosophy.

Landscaping covers plant and architecture sciences.

There are following topics for research: landscaping modern styles; preparation and engineering equipment of a site; innovative methods of plant reproduction; architectural graphics and  composition; floriculture; computer graphics in landscaping; agriculture and agrochemistry; ornamental wood plants of gardens and parks; wreckers, diseases of plants and plant protection; an introduction and acclimatization of plants; planning and management of landscape works; organization of landscape business; history of landscape gardening art; small architectural forms; lawns, etc.

Study process is carried out by 2 professors, 3 associate professors, 2 senior teachers.  Specialists of the Kazan State Construction Academy also take part in studying.

In the course of study, students are given the basics of management and business that gives the graduates additional opportunities to work at already existing landscaping companies as well as start own business.

Good specialists in this area are now highly demanded because professional landscaping is not only beautiful but also prestigious.

Career Prospects:

firms of landscaping, Postgraduate study at KFU, Moscow architectural institute, Russian State Agrarian University -Moscow Agricultural Academy named after K.A. Timiryazev, Tatar research institute of agriculture, “Maisky” and “Vesenny” Greenhouses, forest experimental stations, plant protection stations, plant cloning laboratories.

Master of Science in Biology 06.04.01

with the focus on Applied Plant Biology

We aim to prepare qualified plant physiology specialists to be able to work in research, research and production institutes, and also in biological, medical and agricultural educational institutes.

Area of research: studies of vegetable organisms at the different levels of their organization from molecular to population for development of bioprocessing methods, improvement and reproduction of fruit-decorative plants and herbs, production of metabolites for the pharmaceutical, perfumery and food industries, increase of productivity of cultural plants by ecologically safe methods.

Applied Plant Biology covers plant sciences from the molecules to the ecosystem level. Topics in education and research are: biotechnological approaches at increase of plant efficiency and resistance, Plant Biotechnology and Molecular Biology, plant molecular immunity,  plant stress physiology, Physiological plant ecology, herbs biology, cellular and molecular bases of plant growth, plant hormones: reception and transduction of a signal, physiology and biochemistry of  plant secondary metabolism, bio-energetics of plants, practical course in Plant Stress Physiology and molecular biology, Practical course on plant biotechnology and genetic engineering, etc.

Highly qualified specialists of Institute of Biochemistry and Biophysics of Kazan Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences take part in educational process (they can also participate as Master thesis supervisors). The unique modern equipment (confocal and electronic microscopy, different types of the chromatographic and physical methods), available at Institute, is used for training of specialists. The Department actively cooperates with Jagiellonian University (Poland) and Giessen University (Germany)

Master of Science in Biology  020400.68 Biology

with the focus on Plant Physiology

The MSc program in Plant Physiology is open at Department of Botany and Plant Physiology since 2010. The reason for opening the program was the existence of the modern material base at the Department, allowing to conduct research on system ecological physiology and the biochemistry of plants from molecules to agrophytocenosis.

Highly skilled teaching staff (2 Doctors, 3 associate professors, and 3 senior lecturers) and leading experts of KIBB KSC of RAS prof. T.A. Gorshkova, prof. F.G. Karimova are responsible for study process of the program.

Management of the master program "Physiology of Plants" is performed by the merited scientist of RT, the honored worker of the higher school of the Russian Federation, distinguished professor of KFU - L.P. Khokhlova who has 382 published works, including 4 monographs, 197 scientific articles (8 reviews), 4 educational and methodical works, 2 patents.

In the course of study, student master methods of modern physical and chemical biology. The research is carried out in the following directions: general physiology of plants, ecological physiology of plants, agricultural physiology of plants, physiology and biochemistry of herbs, immunity and protection of plants, etc.

Upon the completion of the degree, graduates can apply for postgraduate professional education (postgraduate specialization - 03.01.05 Physiology and Biochemistry of Plants).
