The Department of Russian Language and Contrastive Linguistics was established in September 2010 through the merger of the Department of Russian Language and the Department of Russian and Contrastive linguistics.

Having a fundamental scientific training maintaining close ties with major universities, the staff provides teaching of all linguistic disciplines.

Since 2004 the Department supervises PhD program in Russian Language.

The teachers continue their research in current theoretical and applied problems of linguistics, as well as the functioning of language and textual units at the present stage of development of the Russian language, intercultural communication and bilingualism, conceptology and lexicology, text linguistics, translation theory, the problems of onomastics and contrastive linguistics. Our staff visited Austria, Hungary, Germany, and many other countries for academic purposes.

The research results are embodied in the annually published monographs, textbooks, collections of scientific papers in international, national and regional conferences. The results of scientific works of the members of the Department are published in national journals in Russia (Moscow, Kazan, Ufa, Tyumen, etc.) and abroad.

The Department primarily carries out the training of qualified teachers of Russian language and Russian literature. Thus, the teaching staff of the Department successfully seeks to solve important problems, such as the development of Russian national culture and language in Russia, the state of bilingualism in the Republic of Tatarstan, multilingualism in a multicultural world environment, and future teachers' speaking culture.
