Kazan University and Nizhnekamskneftekhim contributed to import substitution in Russia

Yesterday, October 29, Rustam Minnikhanov, President of Tatarstan, officially launched OOO “Catalysis Prom” Catalyst Plant.

The researchers of Kazan Federal University and the plant personnel, under the support of Taif Group and the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation kicked off a new industry aimed to support the regional petrochemical enterprise and assist in achieving the targets set by the Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The plant is destined to supply the factory with microsphere catalysts and substitute the old-fashioned analogue that does not meet modern ecological requirements.

Rustam Minnikhanov, addressing to the attendees of the opening ceremony, emphasized that the newly organized industry would deliver one of the biggest Russian factories – Nizhnekamskneftelkhim – from the dependency on external suppliers and thus, contribute to domestically implementing the program of import substitution.

Andrey Fursenko, Aide to the President of the Russian Federation, took the floor. “Russia should be independent and competitive”, he said, “Due to its active politics, Tatarstan stands apart. You can easily name what you have and can do yourselves, thus, providing a spectacular example how Russian science and industry should partner. We live in a magnificent country, our Western partners have given a shake to us and nobody can stop us now”.

“We are witnessing a unique moment; launching a joint industry, scientists of major Russian universities lead the way in the transition to work adequate to business needs and requirements of a real economy sector,” KFU Rector Ilshat Gafurov stressed.

Azat Bikmurzin, Director General of Nizhnekamskneftekhim, thanked all the parties who contributed to the establishment of the new plant.
