Kazan Federal University and Freiberg University of Mining and Technology: towards cooperation

Yesterday, October 13, the leaders of the KFU Institute of Geology and Petroleum Technologies met with Prof. Jörg Schneider (Freiberg University of Mining and Technology), the head of OpenLab for the Stratigraphy of Petroleum Basins.

Danis Nurganliev, KFU Vice-Rector for Research, Director of the Institute of Geology and Petroleum Technologies, Vladimir Silantyev, Head of the Department of Paleontology and Stratigraphy, participated in the meeting where the attendees discussed the activities and progress of the OpenLab for the Stratigraphy of Petroleum Basins as well as its future development and the idea to establish double degree programme for two universities.

The visit of Prof. Schneider is linked with the upcoming Kazan Golovkinsky Stratigraphic Meeting – 2014 that will open on October, 21.

Freiberg University of Mining and Technology is a small German University of Technology with about 6000 students in the city of Freiberg, Saxony. It was established in 1765, by Prince Franz Xaver, regent of Saxony, based on plans by Friedrich Wilhelm von Oppel and Friedrich Anton von Heynitz, and is the oldest university of mining and metallurgy in the world.

Nowadays TU Bergakademie Freiberg is a Technical university with 6 faculties (Mathematics and Informatics / Chemistry, Biology and Physics / Geoscience, Geoengineering and Mining / Mechanical Engineering / Material Sciences / Business Administration and Economics. All classes (Bachelor, Master, PhD) are without tuition fees; students pay only a registration fee of about 70 ? per semester.
