Young KFU scientist is second best in Russian Society of Cardiology Contest

These days Kazan is hosting Russian National Congress of Cardiology. On Wednesday, September 24, the Russian Society of Cardiology, the organizer of the event, awarded the winners of 2014 Young Scientists Contest.

The ceremony started with the welcoming speech of Yevgeny Shlyakhto, the President of the Russian Society of Cardiology, member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Director of Almazov Federal Medical Research Centre.

Hector Alejandro Cabrera-Fuentes, a junior research associate of KFU virtual OpenLab “Pathogenesis Markers and Target Therapy”, represented Kazan Federal University in biomedicine and pharmaceutics group of the contest. Forty-eight participants went through to the finals, where he was awarded a Second Class Laureate Diploma for the clinical research “RNAase 1 prevents the destructive effect of Extracellular RNA and TNF-α interaction in Cardiac ischemia/reperfusion”.

 “To become a finalist means a lot to me”, said the KFU scientist, “The fundamental research I  am conducting at the Kazan University and could put into practice, has been recognized at such a high level – by the Russian Society of cardiology. It is a great success of mine and of my research supervisors, professors of the KFU Division of Microbiology and Biochemistry”.
