The students of Naberezhnye Chelny Institute of KFU took part in the Russian stage of the Formula Student, an international engineering competition. It was held at ADM Racetrack in Myachkovo, Moscow Region, September 4-7, 2014.

The event gathered 21 university teams from Moscow, Tolyatti, Nizhny Novgorod, Yekaterinburg, Hungary, Germany, Scotland, Turkey, Egypt, and Iran.

KFU engineers presented their project in three areas – construction, cost and business plan. The competition enabled students to learn how to design and construct a racecar as well as how to organize its information and marketing support, to go through an idea to a ready rival product.

Last autumn Naberezhnye Chelny Institute of KFU announced on the international competition, the idea to create a university team was supported by Ilshat Gafurov, KFU Rector. Many students showed their interest; however, only 10 best young engineers entered the team and focused on the aim to design a 3D model of a single-seat racing car, and prepare all the required papers and a business and marketing plan for 100 cars.

KFU engineers have plans to successfully participate in further Formula Student stages and build a racing car in 2015.  

Formula Student (FS) is Europe's most established educational motorsport competition, run by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers. Backed by industry and high profile engineers such as our Patron Ross Brawn OBE, the competition aims to inspire and develop enterprising and innovative young engineers. Universities from across the globe are challenged to design and build a single-seat racing car in order to compete in static and dynamic events, which demonstrate their understanding and test the performance of the vehicle.

Formula Student is the leading European competition for undergraduates who want hands on experience in an innovative racing team.

The Mission:

Our mission is to excite and encourage young people to take up a career in engineering.  It seeks to challenge university students to conceive, design, build, cost, present and compete as a team with a small single-seat racing car in a series of static and dynamic competitions.  The format of the event is such that it provides an ideal opportunity for the students to demonstrate and improve their capabilities to deliver a complex and integrated product in the demanding environment of a motorsport competition.
