Kazan University Chapel has come from the World Choir Games (July 9-19, Riga) with a golden award.

The 8th World Choir Games - the world's largest choir competition also known as "the Olympics for Choirs" -brought the international flair of the Choir Olympic idea to Riga, one of the most traditional singer regions world-wide, in the summer of 2014.

Based on the great national tradition an incredible international choir festival was organized with the participation of 27 thousand singers from all over the world.

Era Danilova, the Choirmaster of Kazan University Chapel shared the story of the choir's way to success.

- This trip was a new page in our life, the choir hadn't participated in the events of such a scale for over 10 years, and it was crucial for us to resurrect the custom of international trips. The judges appreciated the high level of the choir singing, and spectators were touched to the heart by the performance.  

Some people think a choir is something complicated and boring, and young people have other interests. However, there is much youth in the Kazan University Chapel and Era Danilova explained this phenomenon.

- To sing in a choir is really difficult. It requires the total efficiency of the choirmaster who should coordinate from 50 to 60 people as well as each singer's devotion. We should remember that Kazan University Chapel is before all a university choir aimed to turn Kazan youth to the cultural history of the country and region.   

The chapel's repertoire includes music of different styles: folk and church songs, modern and classical music, even pop.   

- Singing in different genres we sink into various historical epochs and through music intonation we deliver its mood to the listener. It is a kind of a time journey. General understanding unites the choir members.

The chapel's choirmaster thanked the Kazan University for the support and assistance in the organization of the trip and shared the choir's plans for the future.

- The Olympics for Choirs is organized every two years, next time in 2016 the city of Sochi will host the event. We are going to take part in it. Besides, Kazan people can see us at traditional New Year's concerts and other festivals, organized by the Kazan University Chapel.
