Key interdisciplinary research OpenLabs launched at KFU

Kazan Federal University has outlined key interdisciplinary research areas to be developed, they are biomedicine and pharmaceutical; non-conventional materials; petroleum development, petrochemicals, petrochemistry; communication and information technologies, space technologies.

Hypusine, Omyxes, Biomolecules are new research projects implemented by KFU research labs, or OpenLabs, launched by the KFU Competitive Growth Programme. They all belong to the priority international trends of fundamental and applied research and involve top foreign and Russian scientists.

Thus, virtual Omyx Technologies and Hypusine OpenLabs, based in Structural Biology Laboratory, launched Omyxes Project. Other two projects are Neirodogeneration at the Combinatory Chemistry and Neurobiology Laboratory, and Reprogramme at the Somatic Cells Reprogramming OpenLab. The Institute of Fundamental Medicine and Biology also houses a number of labs, such as Gene and Cell Technologies, Pathogenesis Markers, Neurobiology, Neuropharmaceuticals, Bionanotechnologies.

Non-conventional Materials as one of priority international trends of fundamental and applied research are studied within a number of projects.

The university here aims to carry fundamental researches and develop technologies of producing multifunctional and smart materials.

Virtual Complex Systems Dielectric Spectrography lab offers a Dielectrics project; Quantum Liquids and Quantum Gas OpenLab focuses on a Riplon Project. Roentgen is another research project of the X-ray Diffraction Analysis Lab. Another laboratory has the name of Photonics Functional Programmable Materials for Biomedical and Information and Communication Applications.

The Oxide Project enabled a new virtual New Quantum Technology Materials Research Laboratory; Spintech Project provided the basis for the Spintronic Applications; Insulin Project stimulated the launch of the NMRStructure OpenLab.

The Nonlinear Magnetic Resonance Project is carried out by the Unusual Superconductivity and Magnetism. It was decide that KFU Mossbauer Optics Lab will launch a Mossbauer Project.

Key partners: over 20 universities and international research centres, including RIKEN, Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology (Japan), Insbruk University (Austria), London Empire College (UK), Universities of Arizona and Meryland (USA), Russian Quantum Centre (Skolkovo), Institute of Solid State Physics RAS (Chernogolovka), NT-MDT (Zelenograd), and high technology enterprises of Russia and Tatarstan.

The research areas of information and communication technologies, space technologies, petroleum development, petrochemicals, petrochemistry provided the basis for a number of OpenLabs of the Kazan Federal University.

Thus, some of them are implemented in unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) rapidkly developing today, in particular, by the labs of Systems of Multispectral Image Synthesis for UAV and Space Platforms and Adaptive Decentralized UAV Systems. Another KFU project - Terra Cognita-Sky Tools of 3D City Construction - is closely connected with the mentioned above, it is based at the 3D Visualization Lab. Some more OpenLabs operating at KFU are Cosmology; Adaptive Fractal Antenna Systems; Tiny High Capacity Kinetic Energy Storages; Inertial Autonomous navigation Systems; Quantitative Linguistics; Computer Technologies and Computer Modeling.

KFU offers a wide range of research projects focusing on petroleum development, petrochemicals, petrochemistry, carried by the Institute of Geology and Petroleum Technologies.

Shale hydrocarbons will be studied by the experts of the Petroleum Lythology of Carbon Reservoirs. Besides, the laboratory of paleoclimatology, paleoecology, and paleomagnetism has been opened. The following research laboratories are based at KFU ? Fire flooding; Catalytic Aquathermolysis; Geomaterials Phase Analysis Lab; X-ray and Computer Tomography; Soil Mechanics; and academic hydrochemical laboratory. Projects are planned at the laboratory of solid bitumen and development of high-viscosity oil processing systems.
