World-class professors lecturing in KFU

Reflecting on the first half of 2014, we keep on reminding the events held in the university as a part of KFU Development Programme. Over 30 key Russian and foreign lecturers and experts became the professors of KFU.  The KFU Department of HR Development has looked back to those who worked in the university.

In early May 2014, Giuseppe Palleschi, Ph.D., Professor of Analytical Chemistry of the University of Rome “Tor Vergata”, one of the  foremost scientists in electroanalysis and biosensors, was invited by Butlerov Institute of Chemistry to lecture in “Electrochemical biosensors; from theory to practice”.

Today he is coordinating the Ocean 2013 project of the 7th Framework Programme "Biosensors for monitoring dangerous pollutants of the World Ocean”. Palleschi's h-index is 39; the citation index of 10 most rated publications is 1727. The implementation of this project will contribute into improving the level of teaching disciplines connected with the KFU biological and medical technologies by means of updating existing courses; new interdisciplinary projects in biosensorics are forthcoming, with the participation of professors and researchers of the KFU Institute of Chemistry and the Institute of Fundamental Medicine and Biology; all that including federal target programmes of the Ministry of Education and Science of Russia.

In the middle of May 2014, the KFU Institute of Psychology and Education and the German Centre of Education and Culture invited Julia Koinova-Zöllner,  Dr.Dr.Phil, Research Associate of the Department of General Didactics and Empirical Study of the Faculty of Pedagogy of the Institute of Pedagogy of the Dresden  University of Technology (Germany), to conduct lectures and trainings in “Activation of Self-Education by Means of Cooperative Learning Didactics” aimed at masters and teachers of the Institute. Julia Koinova-Zöllner informed the course participants about new approaches in psychology and pedagogy of Germany, having adapted the material to the Russian specificity. At the training students and teachers received new theoretical and practical knowledge required for increasing the effectiveness of education and self-education and implementing new teaching methods in order to enhance educative process and stimulate the display and realization of innovative and creative potential of the student's personality.

Alexander Komarov, PhD in Biology, Professor, Head of Ecosystem Modeling Laboratory of the Institute of Physicochemical and Biological Problems of Soil Sciences, Russian Academy of Sciences, was extended an invitation to deliver lectures in “Forest Ecosystem Modeling”. He published over 190 works in top scientific journals, with the h-index of 12, RSCI of12, Google Scholar of 18. Co-authored and developed under his supervision, mathematical models of the organic dynamics of forest ecosystems became well-known in Russia and abroad;   they allowed analyzing the carbon and nitrogen balance in forest ecosystems during disasters, such as forest fires, windfalls, final cutting, and insects outbreaks. These models were successfully used for the analysis of carbon balance in different climatic zones of several regions of Russia, Finland, Sweden, Germany, Netherlands, Czech Republic, and Canada.

To be continued.
