Today, on the 20th of June, a delegation of the Embassy of Israel headed by the Minister Plenipotentiary, deputy head of the diplomatic mission, Ms. Olga Slov, visited KFU.

After familiarization with the exposition of the Museum of History of Kazan University the honoured guests communicated with representatives of the Institute of International Relations, History and Oriental Studies and the Institute of Management and Territorial Development. The Head of the Department of International Relations of KFU, Mr. Yakov Grishin, and Director of the Centre for Middle Eastern Studies of KFU, Mr. Roman Penkovtsev, took part in the meeting.

“Several years ago my colleagues visited your University and discussed an opportunity of cooperation. The Centre for Middle Eastern and Israeli Studies was opened at that time,” said Ms. Olga Slov. “There are certain areas which we have already been cooperating in. So, we would like to understand in which other spheres we can develop collaboration”.

The diplomats have prepared a list of proposals beforehand. Thus, as far as new oil deposits have been discovered in Israel there is a need in the respective specialists whom the Embassy representatives hope to find in KFU. Furthermore, the diplomats offered to organise student exchanges or trainings on probation for young students from KFU in Israel in the field of medicine rapidly developing in our University.

One more initiative is related to a program offered by the Governmental of Israel, which includes organising of summer courses in Hebrew. This information was especially interesting for the representatives of the Institute of International Relations, History and Oriental Studies, as in the Centre for Middle Eastern Studies students had been studying Hebrew for more than a year already. KFU representatives also got an invitation to the student research conference in natural sciences, which will be held in Israel this August. According to diplomats, students from more than 40 countries will take part in it, and KFU has an opportunity to send 3 – 4 excellent students speaking English to Israel.

Mr. Grishin, in his turn, offered the Embassy representatives to facilitate Hebrew University of Jerusalem participation in the net Master’s Degree program on international security, which will be opened in our University soon.

At the end of the meeting the parties exchanged souvenirs and agreed to implement what had been offered by both parties.
