Ilshat Gafurov Meets with the Delegation of Czech Republic's South Moravian Region

President of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov met with a delegation representing the Czech Republic’s South Moravian Region at Kazan Kremlin on 16 June. KFU Rector Ilshat Gafurov attended the meeting.

The delegation makes a working visit to Tatarstan on 16-18 June. It is a return trip of the Czech Republic representatives. In April 2013, a delegation representing Tatarstan made a working visit to the Czech Republic, where Rustam Minnikhanov met with Michal Hasek as well.

“We were impressed by what we saw in the Czech Republic; I hope this reciprocal visit to Tatarstan will bring us closer in many aspects,” Tatarstan President said while opening the meeting. He stressed that the region was interested in cooperating with the Czech Republic in trade, economy, science, education, construction, innovations and other areas.

“President of the Czech Republic is known to have scheduled a visit to Russia. Provided he has plans to visit a region within the country, Tatarstan is willing to receive Czech President, we will be happy to do it,” Rustam Minnikhanov said. The effort to increase trade between the two regions needs to be stepped up, he holds.

Tatarstan cooperates with the Czech Republic in automotive industry, medicine, petrochemistry, construction, and runs joint projects in agribusiness. “A good interaction mechanism has been built. Primarily, it includes Tatarstan’s Commerce and Economy Representation in the Czech Republic,” the region’s chief executive noted.

Rustam Minnikhanov reminded that the Czech Republic is one of the leading economic partners of Tatarstan. Tatarstan is also among 6 Russian regions which were approved by the Government of the Czech Republic as priority areas for cooperation. “We should speed up our contacts. Tatarstan today is an attractive region as a starting point for implementation of various business projects”, the President emphasized.

In his welcoming remarks, Michal Hasek expressed confidence in Tatarstan becoming a ‘traditional and important partner’ for the Czech Republic’s South Moravian Region. “I am sure that, at a regional level, we will contribute to our relations and will promote our cooperation,” he said.

Their region was one of the best in the Czech Republic in science and new projects, with large research and development centres being established and industrial sites and innovation centres set up at universities, he reported. He would therefore like to visit Tatarstan’s leading higher schools to examine their operation. He went on to express expectation that Czech businesses would have beneficial meetings with large local manufacturers.

The delegation is planning to visit Kazan Federal University on June, 18.
