Arab League Members in KFU

Today, on the 6th of June, a delegation of ambassadors of Arab League member states visited KFU.

Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassadors of Qatar, Algeria, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Tunisia, Sudan, Iraq and Bahrain were among the delegation members.

The honoured guests had a meeting with Rector Ilshat Gafurov and Directors of KFU Institutes.

The diplomats were shown presentations of KFU priority areas. These presentations were made by the Deputy Director of the Institute of Physics for Education, Mr. Dmitry Tayurskii, Director of the Institute of Fundamental Medicine and Biology, Mr. Andrey Kiyasov, Deputy Director of the Institute of Geology and Petroleum Technologies for Research, Mr. Akhmet Galeev, and Director of the Higher School of Information Technologies and Information Systems, Mr. Ayrat Khasyanov.

After the familiarization part of the meeting the ambassadors shared their impressions, asked questions and made proposals on cooperation establishing and strengthening. One of the ambassadors mentioned the only difficulty which students from Arab states faced in Russia – the language barrier. Mr. Ilshat Gafurov answered as follows: “KFU is eager to teach students in English, but Arab students still must learn Russian, otherwise they won’t be able to fully adapt to living in our country.” The Rector also mentioned that Kazan University offered remote half-year preparatory Russian language courses for those who wanted to study in KFU. He also noted that the majority of Arab students were from Iraq, Yemen and Syria, but their quantity must increase.

The Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Egypt in the RF, Mr. Mohammed Elbadri, offered the Rector to speed up the cooperation development process to give students from Egypt an opportunity to come to Kazan for study. The Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Tunisian Republic in the RF, Mr. Ali Gutali, marked three aspects of further cooperation with Kazan University: Memorandum of Understanding signing between KFU and the leading university of Tunisia, student exchange and collaboration in the sphere of IT.

Mr. Ilshat Gafurov informed the honoured guests that IT-lyceum of KFU had been admitting foreign students since that year.

During the visiting day the delegation of ambassadors was shown the laboratory complexes of the Institute of Physics and Institute of Fundamental Medicine and Biology.
