KFU Sums Up The Results of 2013

The results of 2013 and further plans were discussed at the grand meeting of KFU Academic Council on December, 28.

In the beginning of the meeting Rector Ilshat Gafurov congratulated Guzel Sitdikova, head of Department of Human and Animal Physiology on her jubilee. The meeting ended up with announcement of names of those who had been awarded with signs of state and public recognition, winners of KFU 10 Best Innovative Ideas, 50 Best Innovative Ideas for the Republic of Tatarstan-2013 competitions as well as leaders of divisions which took part and won the Spartakiad. 

The meeting was devoted to election of heads of departments and consideration of applications for competitive positions. The minutes also included opening research laboratory at the Institute of Computer Mathematics and Information Technologies and change of name of the Laboratory for Information Technologies in Math Educaion at the N.I. Lobachevsky Institute of Mathematics and Mechanics.  

Vice-Rector for Research Danis Nurgaliev reported on the amount of payment for opponents to theses defense at KFU.

Ilshat Gafurov made a report on results of 2013.  “This year was quite successful but uneasy”, he mentioned. KFU appeared on the list of 15 universities which won Russian competition for a state subsidy on international competitive growth announced in May, 2013. The Road map on Program for Competitive Growth at KFU was successfully presented in October. KFU goal is to enter the top-100 world universities by 2020.

KFU Road map will be changed according to the achieved results and allocated resources. The Program of Competitive Growth will be monitored with the account of the University’s position at international rankings.

Universiade-2013 has become one of the most important events in 2013. Kazan Federal University was presented by more than 4000 volunteers. 11 students and post-graduates are the Universiade prize winners.

This year KFU has become a leader: in research and academic activities - in Volga region, in average score of USE - among federal universities, in infrastructure development - among federal universities and in the Volga region. KFU closes top three Russian classical universities on academic activity.

In 2013 KFU has got a license on 34 new directions and specialties including Biotechnical systems and technologies, Software engineering, Applied mechanics, Innovation studies, Theology.

The priority areas for 2014 are defined as follows: biomedicine and pharmaceutics, info-communication and space technologies, oil production and oil refining, petrochemistry, advanced materials.

The university is reformatting from classic university to Research university by improving its facilities. The Planetarium was opened on June, 23 as the first object of Astropark. The joint laboratory KFU-Agilent was opened at the Institute of Physics. Laboratory of Neurobiology started research on development of brain before and after birth and on pathologies of developing nervous systems…

In conclusion, Ilshat Gafurov expressed his gratitude to all members of KFU huge team and wished everyone Happy New Year.
