USE will Become a Double-Level Exam by 2015

The Ministry of Education and Science of the RF will divide the Unified State Examination (USE) into two levels: the “basic” and “core” ones.

When entering a technical higher education institution the university entrant will have to take exams in Mathematics as a core subject and the Russian language as a basic subject, while entering a Humanities university will require him to take exams in the Russian language as a core subject and basic level of Mathematics. The first experiment on double-level examination introduction is scheduled for 2014, while in 2015 this scheme will function on a continuing basis.

Today tasks included in the USE contain three blocks: А (tests with multiple choice questions), B (requires answers consisting of one or several words, letters or numbers), C (requires a full answer). According to a specialist, tasks from B block will be included in the basic version, while A and C in the core one.

The head of Rosobrnadzor (Russian Supervision Agency for Education), Mr. Sergey Kravtsov, noted that introduction of changes relating to content of the USE itself was scheduled for the academic year 2014/15.

“We are planning to make such changes. I just want to note that changes concerning the USE security we are speaking about are scheduled for the next year, but amendments relating to the USE structure will take place starting from 2015 only, with the beginning of the new academic year,” explained Mr. Kravtsov.

Furthermore, beginning from 2015 the composition will be introduced as an admission to the USE, extracurricular achievements of pupils will be considered and an oral part of the exam added for Humanities.
