International Scientific-Practical Conference 'Effective Management of Territorial Sustainable Development'

International Scientific-Practical Conference “Effective Management of Territorial Sustainable Development” was opened in Kazan University on June, 4.

The effective management is the management which provides a balanced development and competitive leadership of the territory based on the population needs. It offers the next generations the opportunity to use the resources rationally and develop new activities for harmonious and sustainable development. 

This multicomponent issue was discussed within the nine sections of the conference. The conference’s participants were representatives of the regional and municipal exe­cutive authorities, public and non-for-profit organizations, business associations, KFU faculty members and students.

Tatarstan State Council Chairman Farid Mukhametshin, KFU Rector Ilshat Gafurov, Secretary General of the Assembly of European Regions Pascal Goergen took part in the opening ceremony of the conference.

Ilshat Gafurov stressed the relevance of the issue and described how it reflects in the University’s activities in his welcome speech. “A new format of relations between universities, authorities, business, and society can significantly influence on the society’s sustainable development. The main strategic goal of the University today is to promote socio-economic development of the region, increasing competitiveness and serve as a regional hub. In order to reach this goal we need to pay special attention to training of people who work at the different levels of power in different areas».

Farid Mukhametshin told the audience about the projects which contribute to Tatarstan’s development (Innopolis, SMART Sity Kazan, Technopark).

Pascal Goergen who presented the history and modern projects of the Assembly of European Regions expressed his gratitude to the leadership of Tatarstan and Kazan Federal University for organization of his visit. He mentioned that Kazan is a unique city: diverse, multicultural and renovating. The visit to Alabuga zone strengthened the AER understanding of Tatarstan investment attractiveness and of the European business future participation in the Republic’s economy.  

The key event of the conference was signing Protocol of intent between the Assembly of European Regions and Kazan (Volga Region) Federal University. “In consideration of the cultural relationships between the European Union and Russia, and in recognition of the importance of exchanges in the academic domain which include teaching and research, as well as the special opportunities provided by the act of strengthening professional academic contacts between both universities, the Parties have mutually agreed to enter into this Protocol to establish, develop, and enhance their academic cooperation”.

The Protocol promotes the following activities: Participation of KFU in network programs of AER on academic (university) cooperation, organization of a joint department (research and education center) on international and regional cooperation and the Centre for benchmarking in the sphere of public and municipal administration on the basis of KFU Higher School of public and municipal administration, etc.
