Association of Southeast Asian Nations and KFU: cooperation courses outlined

Today, on the 16th of May, Mr. H.E. Ngurah Swajaya, the Ambassador/Permanent Representative of the Republic of Indonesia to ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations), visited Kazan Federal University.  He delivered a lecture in the Institute of Oriental Studies and International Relations. Topic of the lecture was “ASEAN Community 2015 and ASEAN-Russia Dialogue Relations”.

Introducing the guest the Director of the Institute, Vice-Rector for International Relations, Mr. Linar Latypov, underlined that the visit facilitated development of cooperation between KFU and ACEAN. Particularly, negotiations on ACEAN Study Centre organizing in KFU were in progress.

By the way, such a centre already exists under Moscow State Institute of International Relations. Its aim is to contribute to fuller informing of the Russian and ACEAN public about opportunities and prospects of Russia – ACEAN partnership development. It is also meant to become a basis for establishment of contacts between business and scientific circles of the parties and impulse to broaden ties our country has with the Association in the sphere of Humanities.

According to the Vice-Rector, a centre creation in Tatarstan is now more topical than ever because our Republic is now at the stage of contacts establishment with Southeast Asian countries. Potential for economic cooperation development was also noted by Mr. H.E. Ngurah Swajaya. He marked out energy security, food safety, sociocultural sphere and, of course, education as possible points of contact.

The guest’s lecture given after that was devoted to ACEAN establishment history, its present-day activities and relations with Russia.
