Professor of the University of Sassari (Italy) in KFU

Today, on the 29th of April, a Professor of the University of Sassari (Italy), Mr. Vincenzo Pascucci, delivered a lecture on the topic “Paleoclimate as a key to cognizing future: by the example of Mediterranean basin” in the Institute of Geology and Petroleum Technologies of KFU.

The University of Sassari (Università degli Studi di Sassari) is the oldest on Sardinia. It was established in 1562 and given an official status in 1617. Today the University comprises 11 faculties (about 18 thousand students), in 2009 it was ranked the first among institutes of higher education in Italy. Special attention in the training program is devoted to biodiversity study for Sardinia and the Mediterranean Sea as a whole. University libraries contain a large quantity of invaluable ancient documents, including the first laws of Sardinia written in the local dialect (the XI century) and the famous Carta de Logu, updated by the judge Eleonora d’Arborea in the XIV century, which had become a legal platform of the island state for a long time.

The Professor came to Kazan in the framework of his visit to Russia. He had already spoken to students and teachers of Moscow and Saint-Petersburg State Universities. The main goal of his visit is to determine a city to host an International Congress in 2017. As the scholar confessed, today he is trying to make a choice between Kazan and Saint-Petersburg.

Mr. Vincenzo Pascucci’s visit to KFU will also facilitate development of cooperation between Kazan Federal University and the University of Sassari. By the way, being developed now is a Memorandum of Understanding between these higher education institutions.
