KFU Honored Professor and prominent astrophysicist Rashid Syunyaev celebrated at KFU

On March, 18 was held a solemn event dedicated to the 70th anniversary of prominent astrophysicist and Honored Professor of KFU Rashid Syunyaev in the Academy of Sciences of Republic of Tatarstan.

The event was opened by the President of the Academy of Sciences of Republic of Tatarstan Akhmet Mazgarov who awarded the Professor a Golden Medal “For achievements in Science”.  As noted the Academician himself this was his first Golden Medal received in motherland.

Many famous people of the Republic came to congratulate the Academician. Vice-speaker of Tatarstan Republic State Council Rimma Ratnikova congratulated him on behalf of the first President of Republic Mintimer Shaimiev and Chairman of State Council of Republic Farid Mikhametshin.

One of the disciples and coworkers of the Academician Marat Gilfanov – Honored Academician of the Academy of Sciences of Republic of Tatarstan, leading researcher of the Institute of Cosmic Researches of the Russian Academy of Sciences, supervisor of the research group at the Institute of Astrophysics of Max Plank Society, extraordinary Professor of Amsterdam University participated in the event. His lecture “Half of century in science: from the theory of accretion and physical cosmology to X-ray satellites” was devoted to his teacher.

  The Academician himself told about the main landmarks in his scientific activity and people who influenced his forming as a scientist.

The special proud of the famous astrophysicist are his family and children who have devoted their life to science like his father. The young representative of Syunyaev dynasty Professor of Medicine of Harvard University Shamil Syunyaev was also given a floor on this event. Topic of his lecture was the following “Genome of a human and other organisms”.

KFU Representatives came to congratulate Honored Professor from their University. Rashid Syunyaev actively cooperates with the Department of Astronomy and Cosmic Geodesy of KFU. Due to his participation were achieved agreements on completion of works on production of 1.5 m telescope for KFU and its installment 40 km far from Antaliya. Today the Russian-Turkish 1.5 m telescope of Kazan University is considered to be the first large instrument in the structure of National observatory in Turkey.

KFU Rector Ilshat Gafurov thanked Rashid Syunyaev for cooperation and congratulated in this anniversary and new prize. On behalf of Kazan astrophysicists KFU Professor Nail Sakhibullin congratulated the Academician.
