British-Russian symposium Frontiers of Science 2013 opens in Kazan

The program includes reports on biology, neurobiology, physics, information technologies, astronomy, geology, microbiology and chemistry.

 “For three days we are going to hold scientific debates and look for answers to the most difficult and momentous challenges of this day and age,” said president of Tatarstan Academy of Sciences, Akhmet Mazgarov, while making welcoming remarks. “Equally important is that you will be able to strengthen scientific and personal contacts, and devise joint research to practice projects. We, as the hosts, will do our best to provide you with freedom and comfort.”

Frontiers of Science symposium at the initiative of the Royal Society has been held since 2005, bringing together eminent young talents from all branches of natural science, to exchange new ideas and establish cooperation. A total of 12 conferences have been held over the period been in various countries, Kazan hosts the 13th symposium.

According to the organizers the previous 12 symposiums have resulted in successful cooperation between the UK and Brazil, China, Germany, the Netherlands and other countries. The participant of Frontiers of Science Konstantin Novoselov won Nobel Prize in physics, Mr Poliakoff remarked. “There will probably be other Nobel Prize winners among the symposium’s participants,” he noted.

The event includes workshops on 8 subjects. It is a multidisciplinary conference, and it is expected to see collaboration between scientists representing various branches of science as well.

The agenda includes reports on biology, neurobiology, physics, information technologies, astronomy, geology, microbiology and chemistry. One of the symposium’s conditions is that participants are required to be under 45 and have at least 20 years of working experience after defending the Master of Science thesis. Over 60 scientists from the UK and Russia take part in the symposium.
