On February, 25 scientific–and-practical seminar “Tolerance in the context of global migrational processes” was organized in KFU.

In this seminar participated the Chairman of State Council of Republic of Tatarstan Farid Mukhametshin, Ambassador Plenipotentiary and Extraordinary of Canada to Russia John Sloan, Director of the Institute of USA and Canada of the Russian Academy of Sciences Sergey Rogov, Rector of Kazan Federal University Ilshat Gafurov, scientists from KFU and other Universities.

According to Rector, Kazan Federal University is one of the platforms for serious study of migrational problems, the University orientates on the use of scientific ideas and developments of humanitarians and economists for practical solution of the problems on improvement of legislation and intercultural communication harmonization.  

For this purposes in our University was established an interdisciplinary Centre of Mediation. It is aimed at conflict regulation and extremism prevention.

Ambassador Plenipotentiary and Extraordinary of Canada to Russia John Sloan shared his experience in solving problems on migrational policy. According to him, country has big experience: Canada receives more than 200 thousand emigrants per year. Mr. Ambassador thinks that conduction of such seminars helps to solve various questions. He also noted that discussion of a problem common for Russia and Canada and exchange of experience are very important and necessary. He gifted the University Library with books devoted to this problem.

In the framework of seminar was signed Agreement on cooperation between Kazan University and Institute of USA and Canada of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Mr. Gafurov told that according to this document a new division for study of Canada and USA will be opened in KFU. This new division will be controlled by the Institute of USA and Canada of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

During the seminar were delivered reports by representatives of Canadian migrational office, leading scientists of the Institute of USA and Canada of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Kazan Federal University, members of the Russian Society for study Canada. Topics for the reports were devoted to the modern tendencies in migrational processes, role of migration in Economy of Russia and Canada, problems of adaptation of immigrants in modern economy and society, problems of tolerance and nationalism under conditions of migration, social and cultural aspects of life activity of migrants.
