Kazan University Has Retained Its Position in Times Higher Education Rankings

This iteration includes 18 Russian universities, which is 6 names fewer than in 2016-2017.

KFU is still number 401-500 with several other Russian institutions. Interestingly, KFU also has a relatively high representation of females among students – 67%.

“The fact that some Russian universities have shown positive dynamics is encouraging. However, the country as a whole will need to increase its investments in universities because international competition is growing”, said THE Editor-in-Chief Phil Baty in his interview to TASS.

University of Oxford is still the best. University of Cambridge has climbed up two positions - it took second place, bypassing California Institute of Technology and Stanford University, which share the third place.

"The rankings for this year show how high the competition in higher education has become - the list of 1000 universities included universities from 77 countries. The US continues to dominate the ranking: among the top 200 universities they have twice as many entries as any competitor, but the first two places are occupied by Oxford and Cambridge from the United Kingdom”, added Baty.

The rankings are published for the 14th time. 13 criteria are used, divided into 5 groups – teaching, research, citations, international outlook, and industry income.
