Embassy of the Netherlands Plans to Facilitate Cooperation Between Universities of Two Countries

Ambassador Renee Jones-Bos visited Kazan University on March 17th.

Vice-Rector Linar Latypov escorted the guests through the museums and then showed a brief presentation about the state of international cooperation at the University.

Her Excellency Ms. Jones-Bos agreed that openness is the key to productive dialog and effectiveness. She added, “You said one very important thing – because of the globalization science in different countries follows the same vectors. We must not only find points of mutual interest but also create platforms for researcher dialog”.

KFU has had contacts with Netherlandish colleagues in the past. In particular, those are University of Groningen (Aurora II program) and the European Center for Recognition of Previous Education in Amsterdam (Tempus program). Over 40 co-authored publications with Netherlandish colleagues were made in 2016. However, student exchange has been small-scale – only three postgraduates from the Kingdom are currently at KFU. This area needs further promotion.

The delegation then visited a seminar at the Faculty of Law. The seminar was titled “Rule of Law in Tatarstan and Russia”. The ensuing discussion touched on other issues as well, including legal issues of joint scientific projects. By the way, the Faculty of Law has always had experience in cooperation with the Netherlands. Professor Remko van Rhee (Maastricht University) has presented his series of lectures within the Algarysh Program, and soon his colleague Pablo Bravo Hurtado is expected to do the same.

The Ambassador concluded with offering to compile detailed propositions in cooperation in prospective areas, such as medicine, IT, linguistics, economics, and finance.
