A Flask with the Universiade Flame was delivered to Vladivostok by plane

A flask with the flame of Universiade 2013 was delivered to Vladivostok by plane from the South-Korean city of Pusan.

Initially it was planned to deliver the Universiade Flame to Vladivostok by the Russian bark “Sedov”, which was making its around-the-world cruise, but due to gales in the Pacific Ocean and the South China Sea the bark was delayed. The captain of the bark decided to change the course and touch at Pusan port, where the flask with the Flame was sent to Russia by plane from.

In the airport the Universiade Flame was met by mayor of Kazan, Mr. Ilsur Metshin,  mayor of Vladivostok, Mr. Igor Pushkaryov, Vice-President of FISU, Mr. Oleg Matytsin, and Deputy Director General of the Kazan 2013 Exe­cutive Directorate, Exe­cutive Director of the Universiade Opening and Closing Ceremonies, Mr. Igor Sivov, along with 30 volunteers – students of the Far Eastern Federal University.

Anatoliy Vasilyev – a practice manager and press photographer of “Sedov” bark – was given the honour of bringing the Flame to Russia. Mr. Ilsur Metshin cordially greeted the traveller and expressed a wish for this Flame to light love to sport in hearts of the Russians and for Universiade to become a national feast. Oleg Matytsin thanked leaders of Primorskiy Territory and Vladivostok for a warm reception accorded to the Universiade Flame.

Recall that the XXVII World Summer Universiade Torch Relay started on July 12, 2012 in France. The solemn ceremony of the Flame lighting took place in Paris-Sorbonne University, where the first World Student Games were held in 1923. On July 15, 2013 the Torch was handed over to “Sedov” sailing vessel’s crew. The voyage of the Torch on board the largest bark in the world has become a moment of history. It is the first time that the Universiade Torch Relay extended to such a scale – the sailing vessel covered 45 thousand nautical miles with the Troch on its board and repeated the route of the greatest sailors ever.

On January 25, 2013 the Russian stage of the Relay will start in Vladivostok. The first Vice-Chairman of the Russian Federation Government, Mr. Igor Shuvalov, the President of the Republic of Tatarstan, Mr. Rustem Minnikhanov, along with the famous Russian sportsmen – Alexey Morozov, Dinara Safina, Kamilla Gafurzyanova, anchorwoman Irina Shadrina, volunteers of the Universiade 2013 will take part in the solemn events, – reports Media department of the Kazan 2013 Exe­cutive Directorate. Altogether 60 torchbearers will pass the Torch from hand to hand. Total length of Vladivostok Relay will make 15,5 km.

Moving from the east to the west, torchbearers will visit 30 largest student centres of Russia. The Flame will be brought to Yakutsk, Krasnoyarsk, Novosibirsk, Arkhangelsk, Stavropol, Pyatigorsk, Sochi, Rostov-on-Don, Vladimir, Perm, Izhevsk, Kirov, Nizhniy Novgorod, Samara, Saratov, Orenburg, Ufa, Saint-Petersburg, Moscow and some other cities.

Then the Relay will traverse 43 municipal entities of the Republic of Tatarstan. It will come to an end on July 06, 2013 in Kazan – on the XXVII World Summer Universiade Opening Day, –  Kazan Mayor’s Office press-service reports.
