Kazan doctors have developed a unique method of damaged peripheral nerve and vessel treatment. The operation consists of one injection and lasts for an hour. Thus the rehabilitation period considerably decreases.

Fat saves from disability. In Kazan unique operations are possible. Patients with ischemia of the lower extremities, damages of peripheral nerves and vessels don’t have to take long treatments anymore. Joint mobility and sensitivity revert in a couple of months. The secret is the cells of adipose tissue.

Usual inspection before an unordinary operation: after the injury, which damaged nerve, the left hand of Alexander Yevseyev couldn’t feel anything for more than eight years. Even years of rehabilitation and surgery could not restore the formerly firm handshake.

"I opened the kitchen door, the glass cracked and cut my hand. I went to a doctor, they sewed the nerve. And as a result – abnormal sensitivity" – he says.

Now Alexander Yevseev is hand in hand with innovations. A new treatment method is being tested in the Republican Clinical Hospital of Tatarstan Republic.

Doctors take a fragment of adipose tissue from a patient, in the laboratory they extract the cell concentrate and on the same day injected it into the damaged area. The operation takes an hour. Concentrate works as a kind of factory, generating biologically active substances for a quick recovery.

"It’s a new phenomenon in peripheral nerve treatment. This is a novel recovery in a few months, while a nerve usually grows to such a level in a year or two," – said Andrey Bogov, the head of the Traumatology department No. 2 of Republican Clinical Hospital of the Ministry of Health of Tatarstan Republic.

This method is not used in Russia, and there are no foreign publications on this subject. All over the world people use stem cells for treatment of these injuries and illnesses. In Tatarstan people think in a broader way: the concentrate obtained from adipose tissue, doesn’t consist of stem cells only. That’s the novelty and the secret of success. It doesn’t cause rejection, allergic reactions, and doesn’t lead to cancerology. The effect has already been examined with more than fifty patients. The results surprised even the authors.

"The technology that we are developing uses cells without additional cultivation. It’s a concentrate of cells, which contains stem cells. Biologically they are safer because we don’t make additional manipulations", - said Albert Rizvanov, the Head of the Department of Genetics of the Institute of Fundamental Medicine and Biology of Kazan Federal University.

The cell concentrate of adipose tissue helps patients with such diagnoses as ischemia of the lower extremities, damaged peripheral nerves and vessels to recover. Before that, it required months or even years of treatment, now a single injection is enough.

Alexander Yevseyev doesn’t look intently at cells as practical result is more important for him – he wants his fingers to feel the touch. Doctors believe that the cells will work well. Adel Mukhametdinov’s case is another example. After a terrible accident, he could be disabled, but professionals got down to business. Six months after the surgery he could shake his friend's hand, in one year and a half he was waving his hand to doctors and scientists with gratitude.
