Rector Ilshat Gafurov Attended the Global Universities Association Meeting in Moscow

The October 19th event was presided by Vice-Premier Olga Golodets and Minister of Education and Science Olga Vasilyeva.

Vice-Premier Golodets noted the progress made by Project 5-100 participants in publications and international student recruitment (the growth was 150% and 60% respectively since the project started). Foreign students now comprise 13% of the number of all student population. There are about 4,200 currently at Kazan University.

The Global Universities Association unites Project 5-100 participants. The project is aimed at advancing Russian universities in QS and THE rankings. Ms. Golodets also noted that the results in subject rankings and overall rankings have been promising.

Minister Vasilyeva touched on the foreign languages teaching in secondary schools. She said that her dream is that high school alumni could fluently speak English as a result of their studies. She added that she plans to visit all the Project 5-100 universities soon. Kazan Federal University was named the first in her schedule.

Among the priority research areas discussed at the meeting were genomics, IT and quantum computing, energy efficiency and production.
