KFU-Made Rehabilitative Video Game for Stroke Patients Is Being Tested by Spanish Clinics

The University Clinic may soon follow.

Virtual simulation technologies in medicine are one of the priorities for the Translational Medicine strategic unit.

This particular project includes four games for Xbox 360 and Kinect. As is the case with widely popular dance games, a patient needs to repeat their avatar’s motions on screen. All the exercises are specifically tailored to particular groups of muscles. The process is inclusive, so it also creates additional psychological motivation for the patients to fully immerse themselves into the rehabilitation progress. All the movement logs can then be analyzed by medical supervisors to make adjustments.

It must be noted that the use of a gaming platform for such purposes is quite a rarity in Russia.
