12th Derzhavin Readings Are Being Held at Kazan University on October 17th – 19th

The forum is organized by the Russian Law Academy on the premises of KFU for the second time in a row.

The move was made in 2015 because Gavriil Derzhavin, a famous statesman and poet, hailed from Tatarstan (then Kazan Governorate of the Russian Empire). This year’s conference is attended by about 500 participants, and the contents specifically reflect Derzhavin’s interests – philology and law.

The opening ceremony on October 18th was attended by Rector of KFU Ilshat Gafurov, Rector of RLA Olga Alexandrova, and Prime Minister of Tatarstan Ildar Khalikov.

Among the topics that are the focus this time are terrorism and drug trade, corruption, economic policy, international child adoption, anti-doping practices, and much more. It was also said that the next year’s event will be international for all the panels, unlike 2016 when only the philological sessions are welcoming several foreign contributors.

During yesterday’s preparatory events a bust of Musa Jalil, Second World War hero, was unveiled in the Rector’s Garden near the main building. His daughter Chulpan Zalilova attended and extended her gratitude for this honor.
