Fifth ROPRYAL Congress Opened in Kazan

Russian Society of Russian Language and Literature Teachers kicked off its gathering on October 5th.

This year's headline is «Dynamics of Language and Cultural Processes in Russia». The participants were greeted by President of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov, Rector of KFU Ilshat Gafurov, and President of ROPRYAL Lyudmila Verbitskaya.

Ms. Verbitskaya in her introductory speech thanked Tatarstan, Kazan, and the University for their warm welcome. She also said that KFU has made great progress in many areas since she first visited in the 1980s. She urged everyone to pay special attention to providing equal representation to Russian language and other native languages of Russian ethnic groups. President Minnikhanov concurred and added that this issue is very pertinent for Tatarstan, a multiethnic region. He then awarded Ms. Verbitskaya with the Tatarstani government order called “Duslyk” (“Friendship”).

Rector Gafurov in his speech mentioned the contribution made to philology and literature studies by KFU's employees in the past two centuries. Kazan University now pays special attention to teacher education and implements two different models of such education – classic and distributed.

President Minnikhanov and Ms. Verbitskaya together with Rector Gafurov stopped at a booth placed by the Institute of Philology and Intercultural Communication of KFU. Director of IPIC Radif Zamaletdinov told the guests about the history of linguistics at KFU and the currently working Center of Russian Language Testing for Foreign Citizens. He also asked for federal support in launching an online Russian language learning platform. Ana Tele, a similar program for Tatar language, has proven successful so far.

The ROPRYAL Congress spans for five days (October 4th – 8th) and includes many scientific, cultural and networking events.
