Call for Applications   Germany and Russia in 2030 Scenario Project  Under the Patronage of Frank-Walter Steinmeier, former Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Germany

1. What?

The Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung (FES) in Moscow and Berlin and the
UralFederalUniversity in Yekaterinburg (UrFU) are looking for
participants for a Scenario Project on the future of German-Russian
Relations.

Scenarios are not predictions of the future. Instead, they offer different
pictures of what may or could happen in the future. They go beyond
expert opinions of what is likely to happen and leave aside hopes and
wishes of what should happen. Scenarios, therefore, offer no forecasts
and provide no political strategies or blueprints on how to act for
decisions-makers. Instead, they outline various future situations,
wanted or unwanted, likely or unlikely, but possible under certain
conditions. Political decision-makers can draw conclusions on how (not)
to act in order to avoid a certain scenario to become probable.
Scenarios thus intend to present views on what is possible, not what is
likely or wanted.

2. When and Where?

Scenarios will be worked out in two workshops:

-     The first workshop will take place in Yekaterinburg, Russia, from March 4 – March 6, 2013 (travelling days March 3 and 7, 2013).

-     The second workshop will take place in Berlin, Germany, from April 28 – April 30, 2013 (travelling days April   27 and 30).

The scenarios will then be presented to an audience of political
decision-makers in Berlin, Moscow and Yekaterinburg in the course of
June 2013.

3. Who?

The workshops will be attended by 10 participants from Germany and the
Russian Federation respectively. For the success of the scenario method,
it is absolutely crucial that participants of the workshop have as
diverse backgrounds as possible. The group should be heterogeneous
concerning age, sex, education and professional background. Thus, no
application criteria concerning professional or academic background
exist. You do not need to be a political scientist, an expert on Russia
or Germany to apply
!

The only criteria are the following: Applicants should be…

… older than 18;

… residents of either the Russian Federation or Germany;

… fluent in the English language.

4. How?

The Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung will cover all costs concerned with
participation in the workshops, i.e. travel & visa costs,
accommodation and board.

In order to apply, please send a short cover letter describing your
motivation & a curriculum vitae by e-mail to the following persons:
