Another Science Night – Rise of the Machines, Foam Geysers, and Food Safety

The second PRO Science event was held on July 6th.

Greeting the participants were Rector Ilshat Gafurov, President of Tatarstan Academy of Sciences Myakzyum Salakhov, Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Tatarstan Andrey Pominov, Director of IT Park Kazan Anton Grachev, and Rector of Russian State Academy of Intellectual Property Ivan Bliznets.

This time the evening was dedicated to sciences – physics, IT, chemistry, geology, and mathematics. Lectures were hosted by the Institute of Physics, and open-air events were placed in its courtyard on Kremlevksaya Street.

Everyone could answer questions and make an argument, and some of the visitors used the opportunity. For example, a heated dispute happened between proponents and opponents of the “rise of the machines theory” during a lecture about AI.

Physicists also made quite an impression with their experiments that looked more like very sophisticated tricks. The ensuing lecture attracted many eyeballs (and eardrums, as it were).

Geologists tried to make their display as authentic as possible – there were tents, travel backpacks, and various equipment. Clear skies above completed the romantic exploration atmosphere, and a song with guitars was in order.

Chemists, of course, also conducted experiments. Their lecture touched upon food safety – a topic clearly very pertinent for the general public.

As you might remember, the first of such science festivals was held only a week ago and was dedicated to humanities and social sciences. More surprising formats of this kind will be unveiled soon.
