The ranking is administered by Thomson Reuters and based on academia polls in two categories – education quality and research quality. This year the polls involved more than 70 thousand professionals in 105 subjects from 117 countries.

Unlike other global rankings, RUR only admits experts from Thomson Reuters' own database.

The average growth for Russian universities in 2016 is very impressive – 106 positions.
