Results of the year

On December 27, 2012 an extended ceremonial sitting of the Academic Council took place in Kazan Federal University. This event started from election of heads of chairs, competitive selection of candidates for various posts and academic degrees. Then the Academic Council approved of the plan of work for the year of 2013 and voted for inclusion of Lyceum named after N. I. Lobachevskiy into the structure of Kazan Federal University. The Rector of KFU, Mr. Ilshat Gafurov, made a report about results of activity of KFU in the year of 2012.

Six higher education institutions were successfully reorganized within KFU this year. According to the Rector, about 70 per cent of the educational research staff of the University had academic degrees. Over 650 objects of real estate were owned by the University as of the end of 2012.

In 2012 Kazan Federal University got licenses for teaching in 20 new branches, with 11 proposing Bachelor training and 9 – Mater training (for comparison, in 2011 there were 13 branches). This year for the first time applicants were admitted to KFU as a uniform structure. Total quantity of applications was two times as much as in the previous year – 64 thousand people (with 10,5 thousand students admitted to the first year).

The average passing score made over 71 points this year as against less than 69 points in 2011. This fact permitted KFU to occupy the 7-th place in the Unified State Examination among higher educational institutions with a special status, national research and federal universities.

Rector also told about active work with schools, IT-Lyceum opening and development of co-operation with the leading manufacturing companies. Two KFU projects have got grant support in the amount of 1 billion 140 million roubles, with the first one being organized together with TNG-Group, the second – with Nizhnekamskneftech, OJSC.

127 KFU projects were supported this year by RFFI (for the amount of over 50 million roubles). As for the Federal Target Program “Scientific and educational-research staff of innovation Russia”, we offered 62 projects for the total amount of 76 mln. rub. For Federal Target Program “Researches and developments in priority branches of scientific-and-technological complex of Russia development”, we have 3 projects for 48 mln. rub. In 2012 RGNF supported 41 projects for the total amount of 10 mln. rub. in the sphere of humanities (in 2011 there were 34 projects for 7 mln. rub.).

Rector underlined that the quantity of publications in abstract data bases (first of all, in Scopus) had also increased. In 2011 there were 378 such publications in KFU, and as of November, 2012 their quantity made 331 publications (as against 310 as of the same date of the previous year).

Rector said that all such brilliant results had been achieved thanks to joint work of the numerous KFU team and congratulated everybody with the New Year.

Then the Vice-Rector for Research, Mr. Danis Nurgaliyev, announced the names of those who got state and public recognition decorations in 2012, as well as winners of the contests “10 best innovation ideas of KFU”, “50 best innovation ideas for the Republic of Tatarstan – 2012”. Heads of structural departments of the University whose employees took active part in the sports contest “Be Healthy” were awarded, as well. Mr. Nurgaliyev also announced the names of winners of the contest “The best KFU edition – 2012”.
