University of Auckland is delighted to offer Faculty of Arts Doctoral Scholarships for the year 2016. Domestic and international applicants are eligible to apply for this scholarship programme.

The main objective of the university is to provide high quality, comprehensive educational and training opportunities that are compatible to changing needs of the students. The main purpose of the Scholarships is to provide support towards doctoral study in the Faculty of Arts at the University of Auckland.

The University of Auckland is the highest ranked New Zealand university in the main world university rankings systems. The mission of the University of Auckland is to be:“A research-led, international university, recognised for excellence in teaching, learning, research, creative work, and administration, for the significance of its contributions to the advancement of knowledge and its commitment to serve its local, national and international communities.”

All applicants whose first language is not English will be required to provide satisfactory evidence of their proficiency in English.

Course Level: Scholarships are available for pursuing doctoral degree programme.

Study Subject: Scholarships are awarded within the faculty of Art.

Scholarship Award: Scholarships will be awarded for a period of up to one year, and will be of the value of up to $10,000 per annum.

Scholarship can be taken at: New Zealand

Eligibility: The following criteria must be met in order for applicants to be eligible for scholarships:
Students are required to either a) enrol or take up their Scholarship within 6 months or b) in exceptional cases to have obtained approval for a delayed take up time from the Dean of the Faculty of Arts. The latest possible date for enrolment is 1 December in the year of the award.
ii) Academic merit is measured by the grade point average or grade point equivalent obtained in the applicant’s most recent qualifying programme for doctoral study.
iii) Where the most recent qualifying programme is an undergraduate honours degree (or equivalent undergraduate degree or integrated undergraduate and postgraduate degree), the grade point average or equivalent will be calculated over the final two years of full-time study (or equivalent) in the programme. In all other cases, the grade point average or equivalent will be calculated over the entirety of the most recent qualifying programme.
iv) Regulations are subject to Senate and Council approval.

Nationality:  Scholarships are tenable by domestic and international students.

College Admission Requirement

Entrance Requirements: Students are required to either a) enroll or take up their Scholarship within 6 months or b) in exceptional cases to have obtained approval for a delayed take up time from the Dean of the Faculty of Arts.

English language/test Requirements: All applicants whose first language is not English will be required to provide satisfactory evidence of their proficiency in English. Students entering the University on the basis of NCEA, CIE (NZ) or IB must meet the standard literacy requirements for admission. IELTS and other English language tests listed above are not replacements for these literacy requirements. Please refer to the entry requirements for admission to the University based on NCEA, CIE (NZ) or IB:
-National Certificate of Educational Achievement (NCEA) Level 3
-University of Cambridge International Examinations (CIE) taken in NZ
-International Baccalaureate (IB).
