Kazan University Executives Visit Kanazawa University

Rector Ilshat Gafurov and a team of KFU's employees are on a week-long trip to Japan since May 6th.

May 8th was dedicated to negotiations with Kanazawa University.

The two universities have been cooperating in plasma physics and low temperature physics since 1998. Suzuki Haruhiko, founder and research consultant at the Ultra-low Temperatures Lab of Kanazawa, was awarded the title of Doctor Honoris Causa of KFU in 2009, and Vice-Rector Dmitry Tayursky is a Collaborative Professor at Kanazawa. Several physics students from both countries participate in exchange programs each year. Other fields of cooperation are philology and culture studies.

Overall, 92 publications has been produced in partnership by Kazan University and Japanese universities since 2010. Among our partners are Okayama University, Hiroshima University, National Institute of Agrobiological Sciences, National Astronomical Observatory, and Saitama University.

Rector Gafurov noted that scientific and educational ties between Russia and Japan are of strategic importance. The issue was touched upon by President Putin and Premier Abe in Sochi this past Friday.

Today, May 9th, the delegation is partaking in a roundtable titled «Education and Research in Medicine in Kazan and Kanazawa» and is visiting schools of medicine and pharmacy. Cooperation in medical engineering will be discussed. All the major medical departments and centers of Kanazawa join the talks. A meeting between Rector Gafurov and two senior executives - President of Kanazawa Yamazaki Koetsu and Vice-President Yamamoto Hiroshi – is also in the plans.
