Software for Plasma Physics Created at Kazan University

The work is helmed by Assistant Lecturer of the Department of Mathematical Statistics Violetta Chebakova.

Ms. Chebakova explains the basics of her project, «Our group works on the mathematical models of low-temperature non-equilibrium plasma, more precisely, on the processes of capacitive discharge or induction discharge. My part is capacitive discharge, and I work on numerical algorithms by combining existing methods with our own new developments.

Our results will be of use for debugging high-frequency industrial equipment – such as the types used for material treatment, for example, nanopowders. Numerical experiments are used instead of costly equipment experiments and for calculating some discharge characteristics that cannot be measured directly».

The resulting software will be able to model plasma processes and calculate the characteristics of high-frequency discharges. Creating one universal program for all types of capacitive discharges is near impossible because discharge properties change depending on pressure range, working gas, etc.

Three employees of the Institute of Mathematics and Mechanics are directly involved in the research, with the help from the Institute of Physics and Kazan National Research Technological University.

The existing findings have been presented in conferences as well as in Applied Mathematical Sciences and Lobachevskii Journal of Mathematics.
