Expert Session Held at Kazan University

The session involved experts from Skolkovo Management School.

The guests first visited several facilities, among them the University Clinic, the Universiade Village, the IT Lyceum, and medical education facilities.

The morning session started with Rector Ilshat Gafurov giving the overview of 2015. He touched upon the priority areas and publication activities. He also mentioned the new brand and PR strategies.

Advisor to the Minister of Education and Science of Russia Andrey Volkov praised the University saying that it is now exemplary amongst its peers. He spoke about the changes in the evaluation strategies of leading universities by the Ministry and the International Expert Council. The three dimensions of appraisal are management style and priorities, support for special research programs, and strategic academic units (SAU) that were also discussed later during that day.

Dr. Volkov said that Russian universities have gone a very long way in the last fifteen years. Their participation in Project 5-100 has not only influenced themselves but has also changed the criteria in the QS and THE rankings.

Four SAUs were discussed during the day: translational medicine, petroleum technology, education, and space physics. They will later be officially presented to the Project 5-100 International Council for evaluation.

President of the American University of Central Asia Andrew Wachtel concluded the day with his speech about modern university strategies.
