Kazan University Receives United Nations Award

«Russia – UN: 70 Years of Cooperation» commemorative medal was given to the University on February 2nd. Rector Ilshat Gafurov received a personal diploma.

The medal was handed over by Director of the UN Information Center in Moscow Vladimir Kuznetsov. While addressing Vice-Rector Riyaz Minzaripov he mentioned that Kazan University was chosen for its active community work in popularizing and translating the UN’s objectives. He added that KFU alumni will undoubtedly be among those who are going to implement the UN’s sustainable development goals.

The program with its 17 goals and 169 criteria was adopted on the UN summit in September 2015.

The program's common theme is sustainable and inclusive economic growth, full productive employment and decent work. Standardization of wages should be implemented before 2030. The program calls for labor rights protection and providing safe work environment for all workers, especially women migrants and people with unstable employment.

The program also touches upon youth employment, child labor and forced labor, advanced training, women's rights and opportunities, and labor productivity. In particular, it includes a global youth employment strategy.

The document reiterates the importance of protecting and maintaining basic freedoms and social security and migrants’ positive contribution to the economic growth and sustainable employment.
