Chinese Language Will Join the List of Unified State Exam Subjects in Russia

Kazan University is an active participant of this preparation process.

There will be another mock exam in 2016, as Rosobrnadzor representatives said during the latest meeting.

The preparatory works have been underway for several years now. The workgroup has studied Chinese language exams in China and some other countries.

The first mock exam was held in 16 Russian provinces in October 2015 and involved over 3,000 high schoolers. The experts now estimate that only 2-3 years of further preparation are sufficient to introduce the exam officially.

Director of the Institute of International Relations, History and Oriental Studies Ramil Khayrutdinov shared his satisfaction with the fact that teaching of Chinese will be standardized and widened. Kazan University will undoubtedly benefit from enrolling students with advanced knowledge of the language. This will free a significant chunk of curriculum hours for other subjects.

Of course, the need for teachers of Chinese in secondary schools will also increase sharply in the nearest future. Kazan University is ahead of the time here as well, having already introduced the Chinese teaching major. The bachelors of Tatar and Chinese language and literature will leave the University walls in three years, said Director of the Institute of Philology and Intercultural Communication Radif Zamaletdinov.
