KFU was named the best university in Tatarstan in sports organization and activities at the 2015 Athlete of the Year ceremony on December 22nd.

Rector Ilshat Gafurov was present to receive the honor. Winners in other nominations were also celebrated, among them athletes, coaches, sports unions, professional federations, and specialized media.

Minister of Youth Affairs and Sport of Tatarstan Vladimir Leonov spoke about the importance of FINA 2015 and called it the best in history.

2016 will also be full of significant events, as the Minister said. Some of these are the European Judo Championship and synchronized swimming tournaments. 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup draw will also be held in Kazan.

Kazan Federal University plays a major role in youth involvement into sports and physical activities. This was acknowledged by the abovementioned award for its efforts in this area.

Representative of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sport Aleksey Levanov commented, “Physical activities and general health management at KFU have been top-notch for a while now. The University is one of the leaders in this regard. Multiple awards for both team and individual achievements can attest that. For instance, the University has been the winner of the Russian national contest for the best organizational work in sports and health management for the last three years”.
